Wildekrans was established in the 1970’s and set up as a mixed farming operation of cattle, sheep, ostriches, wheat, fruit, wine and table grapes. With time it became obvious that Wildekrans was an ideal spot to grow vines, and today Wildekrans is a distinguished boutique wine estate nestled in the serene Bot River Valley. The cool Atlantic sea winds and lean soils allow the grapes to reach optimal ripeness and impart the characteristic cool-climate aromatic profile for which they are celebrated.
The Wildekrans Wine Estate in Walker Bay is being given a new lease on life following its sale to a group of local businessmen: Led by Richmark Holdings CEO, Gavin Varejes, the group includes Mark Levy, Brett Levy and Gary Harlow from Blue Label Investments, and David Marais. The five, who share a number of commercial interests, have worked together for many years and are good friends. The group is committed to investing in several improvement projects, each designed to upgrade the Estate and take Wildekrans Wines to the next level.
The Varejes-led group will retain the existing award-winning wine-maker William Wilkinson. Renowned for his meticulous vineyard and cellar care, he produces fine wines that reflect the true expression of the Bot River terroir. Distinguished viticulturist, Kobus Jordaan, has also been appointed to help drive the Wildekrans renewal. |
